How much paint do I need?
For a rectangular room, add its length and width, multiply by two, then multiply by wall height. Subtract the combined area of doors and windows. Multiply the remaining wall area by your coat count and divide by the paint’s stated coverage per gallon. Ceilings and trim are not included.

Does this include the ceiling?
No. This estimate is for the four walls of a rectangular room. For the ceiling, calculate length × width × coats ÷ coverage separately.
How do I account for doors and windows?
Measure each opening’s height and width, multiply them, and add the areas. Enter that total in the openings field.
Are partial gallons included?
The raw paint requirement appears in the breakdown. The shopping amount rounds up to whole US gallons; compare the container sizes available at your store.
